Home-made presents for the Grandma's

I've been frustrated reading about all the lovely fashion sewing that everyone has been doing for themselves.  Meanwhile, we have been making home-made pot-holders for the grandmas.  My five year old likes to make presents herself, and I do think the grandmas actually appreciate them.  This leaves me trying to think of clever ways to come up with things that are at least semi-useful rather than just tat to fill up their houses.  This year the answer is patchwork pot-holders featuring a central patch designed by each child.

I am sorry this picture is so awful.  I don't know how to do any better.  Today is the shortest day of the year and it is snowing outside.  There just isn't any light.
