My little sister is due to have her first baby the first week of August. The children and I are decamping for the summer to my father's house for a nice long visit, so I raced to get this quilt done before school breaks up. My sister isn't at all superstitious, so I will go ahead and mail this off to her in NYC straight away so she won't have to wait till September for it.
My plan had been to make a basically blue quilt with brown accents, but it seems like I got a bit too much brown into the mix. This is the sort of thing that happens when you don't follow a pattern and make it up as you go along. I still like it.
My one complaint: the slim selection of fabrics for little boys! I found it difficult to find nice designs and motifs that were clearly for boys. A lot of it was harsh and garish or so wispy and soft with blue soap bubbles and ducks that I couldn't imagine my sister bringing it along to the park or feeling comfortable to use it much at all!
I had Cath Kidson's cowboy pattern in mind, but couldn't get ahold of it and had to move on. I found some once it was too late, seems that the cowboy pattern in lightweight cotton is a brand new offering.
See how cute it is:
