Size 12 Model Will Compete for Miss England Title

According to this article, 22 year old plus size model Leah Green has beet out over 200 contestants on the road to the Miss England Crown. Leah is a size 12 (equivalent of a size 8 in the USA).

Leah told how she was rejected my several modeling agencies throughout her career, despite the fact that she is two dress sizes smaller than the average woman in the UK.

"I have tried to get into modelling," she said. "But I have been turned away as I'm apparently too big to be a regular model. I've been told I'm too fat and I need to lose weight. One agent told me I would have to work hard to achieve the gaunt look he was after."

"I helped out with London Fashion Week last year and many of the models looked like they were about to keel over and die," she said.

Leah hopes to offer women an alternative role model by competing in Miss England. "I saw it as a chance to get my message across," she said.

Skinny Models Out, Plus-Size Models In?

According to an ABC News Article, stick thin models might be on their way off the runway thanks to Whitney Thompson, the winner of cycle 10 of America's Next Top Model.

Whitney is a size 10, not "fat" by conventional standards. Actually, "she's slimmer than the 34 percent of Americans older than 20 who are obese." But, when Whitney is compared to the models that currently dominate the runways, shes big.

People are starting to have a newfound respect for the plus-size model because of Whitney. "I've stood there in the middle of an agency with everyone pointing at me and saying 'four more inches off the hips would be great,'" Thompson said. "I don't recommend any girl putting herself through that, but I did and I stand here unchanged, physically."

Roaman's believes that Whitney's attitude towards her body is one that all women should have.

America's Next Top Model “This isn’t plus-size. This is beautiful.”

In an interesting MTV News article, Rya, an MTV intern discusses the finale of America's Next Top Model when Whitney Thompson was pronounced the winner.

Rya mentions that Tyra Banks is smart for picking Whitney as the winner. Why? Because, "She's well aware that, while the winners of this competition aren't necessarily runway material, they do have Cover Girl potential."

Full-figured Whitney is "the kind of representative, very beautiful, face of our country."

We at Roaman's agree with Rya 100% when she mentions that she "double-couldn't-agree-more with" ANTM judge Paulina, and who said in regards to Whitney's controversial figure, "This isn't plus-size. This is beautiful."

Dancing With The Stars Eliminates Plus Size Contestant

On Monday, Tony Award winner Marissa Jaret Winokur was eliminated from Dancing with the Stars. Her and partner Tony Dovolani, came in last place in the semifinal round, with 52 points out of 60.

Marissa was known as the contestant that represented women who aren't a size two. She wanted to prove to people that, "you don't have to be a size zero to dance." Roaman's agrees, we think every woman should feel comfortable in their own skin and feel confident to do anything!

Her personality is what really made her popular. Her partner Tony has said, "I wish, everybody could carry a little Marissa around with them." According to the article, Another elimination from 'Dancing With the Stars,' "Winokur had a glowing smile throughout the competition, even grinning after she learned her fate.

Plus Size Role Models: Queen Latifah

Queen Latifah, or Dana Elaine Owens, is an American plus size role model. She is noted for her work in rap, singing, film and television.

Known as hip-hop's first lady, Latifah began her music career at 18, beat-boxing with the group Ladies Fresh in the late 1980's. She remained a prominent female artist in the hip-hop scene over the next decade. In 1994 she won a Grammy Award for her hit single U.N.I.T.Y.

During that time, Latifah started acting as well. From 1993 to 1998, she had a starring role in the FOX sitcom, Living Single and she first attracted notice for her role portraying a lesbian in the 1996 box office hit, Set It Off. Later Latifah gained mainstream success from the 2002 Oscar-winning musical, Chicago. Latifah was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance in Chicago. Since then she has had both leading and supporting roles in various genres of films.

Latifah is also a spokesperson for Cover Girl cosmetics, Curvation ladies underwear, Pizza Hut, and Jenny Craig. She has developed her own line of cosmetics for women of color, Covergirl Queen Collection.

Queen Latifah is a style icon for plus sized women. She chooses the right styles for her figure and does a great job accentuating her positive features.
