Who would make those crazy pants? Me!

I am embarking on a pair of pants that I don't think are my style, or even flattering.  I can't really explain myself, except to say that they look comfortable and I need some cool, casual, summer shorts alternatives.  And, sometimes, it's good to break up your own taste and try something different, who knows sometimes you surprise yourself.

All that said, these trousers are not a doddle to sew up.  They have three dots.  I am just getting used to classic pants construction and these are far from classic.  As usual, I only understand Burda instructions when I already know how to sew something.  This could easily be a wadder.  But, the cotton twill was cheap and I may as well give it a try and stretch my skills a little.

Here is my first attempt at a welt pocket:
First attempt.

Slightly better second attempt

I looked at 4 different sets of instructions for welt pockets both on and off the web and this is what I ended up doing.  I carefully measured.  I meticulously pinned and basted.  I really understood the concept.  Turns out that execution is harder than it looks.  I don't have enough fabric to recut these pieces.  So, I am going to run with them as they are.  I think trying to "fix" them could just make things worse, and besides, there is a LOT going on with these pants.  They are hardly classics where razor sharp details will make all the difference.  I also can't see myself wearing them with a top tucked in anyway.

So, in the final analysis, I know the welt pocket opens are lousy, but, I am not "bovered!"
I'll keep you posted.
