Redcats USA Supports Tour de Cure

There’s a feeling of warmth in the air and it’s not just attributed to the weather! Redcats USA (Roaman’s parent company) is joining the American Diabetes Association in their TourdeCure fundraiser campaign beginning, June 2nd through June 26th.

TourdeCure is a cycling event held across 43 states and Redcats USA will be participating in its New York event on June 26th. With over 23 million people affected with diabetes everyday, the fundraiser’s mission is “to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.”

Going Green in 2010- Happy Earth Day!

Today, April 22, 2010 is Earth Day and this year marks its 40th Anniversary with so many remarkable accomplishments. Although some accomplishments have been done on a global level, it is the individual sacrifices that we’ve all made that keeps Earth Day moving in the right direction. We’ve made recycling our top priority (Roman’s prints catalogs on recycled paper), shut off lights when leaving the room and turned off our computers when not in use.

But as with any change, the steps are ongoing and to kick off Earth Day 2010 right, here are some 10 easy reminders to make the next 40+ years just as successful.
1) Wash clothes in cold water- then air dry them!
2) Invest in reusable shopping bags instead of the standard plastic bags.
3) Use reusable water bottles instead of plastic bottles thereby cutting down cost on recycling.
4) Check for any water leaks in your house and get them repaired as soon as possible to avoid wasted water.
5) Run a fully loaded dishwasher- we all fall into the trap of doing just a handful of dishes to save time, but a fully loaded dishwasher is much more energy efficient.
6) Turn down your thermostat even by just a degree and save 1 to 3% on your heating bill.
7) Have fun and create your own garden of vegetables and enjoy daily fresh and delicious meals!

Celebrate Mother Nature: Happy Earth Day!

It’s Earth Day: Time to celebrate all the richness Mother Earth has to offer, while doing our part in protecting it. We all know that when something is forced upon us, the likelihood that we’ll participate is slim to none, but here are some fun facts about this phenomenal movement that might get you to think twice:
- Founded by a Wisconsin Senator, Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970 and had 20 million Americans participating.
- By recycling one aluminum can, you can save enough energy to watch 3 hours of TV
- If every newspaper were recycled, 250,000,000 trees would be saved

Still not motivated? Perhaps because you may feel that participating involves a lot of added time to your already hectic schedule; however here are some quick, easy and fun tips on how you, too, can “go green”
At home:
1) Carpool to work- not only do you save money on gas but you also enjoy the company of others all in the name of goodwill! And if possible, walk! It’s great for your body, mind and spirit.
2) Turn off anything you are not using including computers, lights, etc.
3) Plant a tree in your backyard! While your property value increases, greenhouse gases decrease!
At work:
1) Eliminate unnecessary photocopying.
2) Encourage e-mailing instead of using paper.
As a consumer:

Punch it up for Fall - Plus Size Trends

Fall is one of the best times of year. In addition to the kids going back to school, it is when all of the summer colors fade away and you start seeing rich, vibrant colors popping up. Fall is a time to start fresh! Get ride of all those tank tops and gauzy dresses and pull out come luxurious wools and cozy cashmere! If your closet isn't bursting fall fabrics an easy way to start looking "fall" is to throw a few bright colors in your wardrobe mix. Raspberry is a popular color in a lot of lines right now. Proenza Schouler pared a great raspberry dress with some golden tights. Bill Blass used a fabulous pair of raspberry platforms to make this black and white ensemble pop and Behnaz Sarafpour really hit the spot in the ruffle dress.

An easy way to work these luscious raspberry and wine colors into your wardrobe would be with a scarf - easy to wear and very versatile, or with a blouse. You can pair it with a suit to add some color, you could wear it over jeans or under a sweater. There are a lot of options. Red happens to be one of my favorite colors and you can really get creative in the way you bring it into your wardrobe.
