New York City is all a buzz this week with the start of the much-anticipated Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. This year will be the largest yet when over 325 Designers converge at the stunning Lincoln Center to present their Spring/Summer 2011 collections. Now, most of us are not stylists or department store buyers so participating in Fashion Week was not an option for us “regular gals,” until now!
Last year, in the wake of the economic crisis Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue Magazine, decided to organize a fun, all inclusive city-wide event that would help stimulate the local retail economy. With this simple yet ground-breaking concept, Fashion’s Night Out was born becoming one of the biggest nights in fashion. The event takes place this Friday, September 10th from 6:00 p.m. till 12:00 a.m., and counts with the participation of 1,000 retail stores citywide!
What exactly happens on Fashion’s Night Out? Well participating retailers in New York City and cities across the country open their doors, many of them after hours, to hold special sales and unique events that include tons of celebrities, music, designers, and fashion editors, doing everything from the very silly to the very exclusive.
Some retailers also use this opportunity to sell items that will benefit local charities, while others offer exclusive discounts or host celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez who will be signing bottles of her latest perfume. The Olsen twins will also host a one-of-a-kind Karaoke and Ping Pong table contest at Barneys! So as you can see, Fashion Night Out is one big fashion party full of fun and savings…and all of it for a really good cause.
