My MANy Bags News #334

Below: A balance of discreet luxury and branding... introducing the Damier Infini collection from Louis Vuitton's Fall Winter 2011 range of bags...

Louis Vuitton Damier Infini

Logos are passé. Subtlety is key to wealth and taste. More and more brands are pursuing the minimalist route for their top range leather goods. The more savvy a customer gets, the less brash he wants himself to be. Quality becomes more paramount than branded initials of whom they buy into.

Good news for Louis Vuitton fans. Louis Vuitton has always been a perpetrator of 'logomania', so it is refreshing to see the brand moving into the territory of discreet luxury more and more. Introducing the Damier Infini, a Fall Winter 2011 collection of bags crafted from supersoft calfskin embossed with the house’s Damier check. No longer are the Damier Checks pattern screaming for attention, they are now imbued with a subdued luxurious charm. Discreet but identifiable, these bags has the perfect balance of branding and craftsmanship.

If you find yourself a fan of this range, rejoice... some of the best LV mens styles are included in the collection. Loving the Keepall (with shoulder strap) and the Porte-Document Voyage which are iconic and yet functional. There will also be small leather goods to compliment your travel style. Damier Infini will be offered in rich charcoal, red, and light grey.

Sign me up for that bright red Keepall... It's LVoe at first sight!

Damier Infini will arrive in Louis Vuitton stores from mid-August 2011. For Singapore fans, the collection will be launched in Singapore come September 2011. Look out for the collection at Louis Vuitton's first Island Maison in Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.

Ad Campaigns And Catalogues #225

Below: Angelina Jolie is the latest celebrity to be featured in Louis Vuitton's Core Values Ad Campaign. Shot in Cambodia by Annie Leibovitz (Click on image to enlarge for better view)

Louis Vuitton Core Values Ad Campaign Starring Angelina Jolie

Louis Vuitton
unveils their latest Core Values advertising campaign, starring mega celebrity, Angelina Jolie under the watchful lens of Annie Leibovitz.

"We are honoured that Angelina Jolie agreed to participate in our Core Values campaign, whose central theme of travel as both a physical and emotional journey is one with which she can personally identify. Angelina Jolie is a global star in every sense – not only in her career as an actress, but also in her long-term commitment to international humanitarian issues." Pietro Beccari, Louis Vuitton Executive Vice President, Marketing and Communications

Angelina Jolie is a global star in every sense – not only in her career as an actress, but also in her long-term commitment to international humanitarian issues. Someone who truly inspires.

The Core Values campaign pictures Angelina Jolie sitting barefoot in a traditional wooden boat in the luxuriant, watery landscape of Siem Reap province. Next to her is a vintage Louis Vuitton Alto holdall in Monogram canvas, a bag the actress has owned and loved for many years. The tagline reads: "A single journey can change the course of a life. Cambodia, May 2011."

Having described her first encounter with Cambodia as a life-changing experience, Angelina Jolie agreed to be photographed there for Louis Vuitton.

Cambodia and Angelina Jolie shares close emotional ties. She travelled there for the first time in 2000 to film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and was overwhelmed by the beauty of its landscapes and the warmth and generosity of its people.

She returned to Cambodia in her role as a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Goodwill Ambassador, raising awareness of the dangers of landmines, and subsequently adopted her eldest son Maddox from a Cambodian orphanage. In 2005, she was awarded Cambodian citizenship by King Norodom Sihamoni for her humanitarian and conservation work in the country through the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which she established in 2003.

Keep a look out for ad in international magazines from Mid June. Keep on the good charity work, Mrs Pitt!

Ad Campaign And Catalogues #221

Below: Check out the new Louis Vuitton Fall Winter 2011 Ad Campaign...

Louis Vuitton Fall Winter 2011 Ad Campaign

Louis Vuitton's Fall Winter 2011 Womenswear runway presentation may have filled you with evocative feelings of fetishism, old world hotel porters and french maids, the concept for the corresponding ad campaign surprisingly bears little sign of this 'fantasy'. Instead Marc Jacobs and photographer Steven Miesel chose to be inspired by a story of vintage cars and the beautiful female passenger that travelled in them. Varying ideas it may be, the result was nonetheless no less impressive.

Bearing a classic feel and a romance of old world travel... those girls are beckoning out to you to share a ride. Of course... who wouldn't adore the alluring new Fall Winter 2011 bags and accessories that had every fashion fan talking even before debutting in stores (those hand cuffs inspired 'fetish' bracelets and furry bags are TDF!)

The Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2011-2012 campaign shoot was a complex and carefully coordinated operation involving not only six young, up-and-coming models, five vintage cars and their chauffeur, but also seven pairs of pedigree dogs.

"Steven Meisel and I met and decided we would do this wonderful story of beautiful vintage cars, little dogs and fresh-faced young women. It's a very classic scenario, and of course it suggests travel, but I think we gave it a fresh, modern and sometimes a little bit naughty, tongue-in-cheek spin." Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton Artistic Director

These striking scenes take up the narrative of the Louis Vuitton fashion show at the point where the woman leaves her hotel and steps – along with her pet pooch – into her chauffeur-driven limousine. "Who wouldn't want to be this gorgeous young woman in the back seat of this beautiful car?" asks Marc Jacobs. "And wherever she's going, she's dressed in style this season by Louis Vuitton."

Look out for these fascinating ads in magazines from Aug 2011.

My Shopping Conquest #122

Below: The closest I will probably come to getting a 'tattoo'...:-P Love my new Louis Vuitton x Scott Campbell Spring Summer 2011 étole tattoo bleu. 'Chinese Mafia' LV style?

Below: One of the key pieces in LV's Spring Summer 2011 mens collection... the cotton stole is fabulous under blazers and sweaters!

Louis Vuitton x Scott Campbell Spring Summer 2011 Mens étole Tattoo Bleu

Louis Vuitton is the king of collaborations. You have to applaud Marc Jacobs for his unusually acute sense of successful collaborative projects with famous artists. From Murakami to Richard Prince, Rei Kawakubo and now for Spring Summer 2011... celebrity tattoo artist Scott Campbell. I am usually not a fan of tattoos. I can tolerate seeing them in small amounts on other people (gives them a cool edge I must say, when done right), but never on myself. I will just get tired of the design very soon and regret it for life:-(

But it was love at first sight for this Louis Vuitton x Scott Campbell Spring Summer 2011 Mens étole Tattoo Bleu after I first saw Bagaholicboy flaunt his on twitter. I immediately got smitten by Scott's highly original style! His work for LV is street vs. fine art vs. fashion... all done with lots of personality and attitude. What's more, the oriental theme motif is what I deemed a contemporary take on chinese mafia style, 'bad boy' cool anyone?:-P

I told myself I must track one down. The LV gods heard my wishes and and I managed to find the seasonal-release cotton stole at Ngee Ann City's LV store. Only 2 pieces were available... of course one came home with me. I grabbed at the chance to own this fashion piece cum collectible art:-) (My friend said Scott Campbell is going to get even more famous:-) So this might be a highly sought after collectible in the future.)

Below: Oriental dragons and tattoo style LV monogram flowers... a cool intepretation of contemporary body art... Scott Campbell's work is amazing!

The stole features subdued colours of pale blues, brown tones and greys with motifs of chinese dragons and a series of reinterpreted tattoo style LV monogram. I also love the extreme creasing which give the scarf a used and nonchalant look. Perfect to peek out from under your blazers and sweaters, definitely a conversational piece at events:-)

Below: Close-up look at the prints on the extreme creased stole... lovely colour combination!

Can't wait to head to cooler climates soon to put this stole to good use:-) It's been so long since LV has gotten my 'shopping adrenaline' pumping this much... Very pleased with my purchase and love Scott Campbell!

The Material Boy #462

Below: Frivolous expensive wants for this Sunday! Love these Louis Vuitton 'summertime fun'
Ailleur Key Holders:-) How cute...

Weekend Things To Break Your Bank: Louis Vuitton Ailleur Key Holders

In this edition of frivolous material wants for the weekend, I am turning my attention to cute little expensive things that might bring a smile or two for Sunday.

While walking past Louis Vuitton at Ngee Ann City yesterday, I was duly charmed by these cute little Louis Vuitton Ailleur Key Holders displaying playfully inside the store windows. The adorable multi-coloured motifs of summertime fun, from palm tree, beach hut to parrot, immediately resonates with me. Beach vacation here I come! I am loving the tropical feeling that these vivid coloured key holders evoked. Perfect for decorating any bag, breathing island/beach time chic to your beloved arm candies.

Which one do you like best? I am in a love at first sight with the Ailleur City Key Holder. Somehow the greens and palm trees with an orange monogram flower combination is cheerful and super cute. I also like the mix of resin and gold metal materials which combines mundane and luxury for a quirky appeal to the key holders.

Retails for USD330. Yes, I did mention outfront that these are expensive indulgences for the weekend:-P

I am going back to LV to check them out in person today!

The Material Boy #452

Below: These are my picks of the best mens shoes for Spring Summer 2011!

Below: I want them all! So what's your picks?

My Top Picks: Best Shoes Of Spring Summer 2011

What are your picks for the BEST mens shoe designs to hit the stores this Spring Summer 2011?

Here's my favourites, the best of the best of the season...

1) Prada Espadrilles Brogues in Tobacco
This pair of shoe needs no introduction. It’s on everyone’s wishlist and every Prada store’s customer wait list. Combining high street style thick rubber soles with elegant classic brogues and adding a touch of summer with espadrilles jute rope trimmings... this is the perfect example of a winning design for hybrid shoes. Quirky without being cheesy, statement making without being overly brash, this shoe is an refreshing twist from all the conventional shoe designs. Good job Prada! I am sure these will help cash in and surpass the 150% higher net profit of 2010 (that WWD just announced) for your next financial year:-P

2) Christian Louboutin Denim Rollerball Spikes
Another hot shoe on every guy’s wish list has to be something from the red soled family of Christian Louboutin. The right combination of grunge and luxury, these ‘over the top’ priced Rollerball Spikes are made even more versatile and appealing with the introduction of SS2011’s denim version. Every man needs his jeans. And every fashion fan worthy to be called stylish needs a pair of these fierce shoes!

3) Jil Sander Leather Derby with Blue Painted Sole
Raf Simons exemplifies the colour blocking trend for Spring Summer 2011 season thru his bold use of colours at Jil Sander. These leather Derby with coloured soles is the shoe every colour blocking fan need to compliment any colourful ensemble! Using almost neon blue (Presumably Yves Klein blue) as an eye poping accent colour, you cannot help but notice the guy who walks his path in these eye catching heels.

4) Dolce & Gabbana Raw Canvas & Leather Lace-ups
If there’s a pair of shoes that can take you from city to resort for this season, Dolce & Gabbana Raw Canvas & Leather Lace-ups is the shoe you must have. Crafted with raw edge (unhemed) canvas and burnished leather, these lace-ups sends off resort chic at its best. The elegant lace up designs also ensures if you ever venture out of your holiday sea-front abode to hit the clubs, you will still look as smart and never lose an inch of your charm.

5) Lanvin Python Trim Buckle Leather Slip-ons
Channel some urban warrior in you with these shoes from Lanvin. Python and croc skin textures with smart trekking details (the fastening buckles) create an unexpected design twist on formal slip-on leather shoes. This is tough luxe at its best!

6) Louis Vuitton Leather Lace-ups with high back panel
Brogues are huge this Spring Summer season. But when you interpret the classic design and make it modern, such as reconfiguring the proportion of the back panel or using different materials for textural interest, an entirely new set of aesthetics is achieved. This Louis Vuitton pair is simply classy and masculine with just the right amount of new ideas to make it a true investment piece. These are shoes that will give your bucks longevity and take you into seasons after seasons of savvy dressing. Love!

I want them all:-)

Share your top picks of footwear. Which shoes are your favourite this Spring Summer 2011 season?

The Material Boy #435

Below: been a long time since I covet something from Louis Vuitton... this Monogram Impression Sac Weekend is now haunting me! Love the subtle monogram and moss green tones...

Below: Comes in a messenger bag style (Monogram Impression Besace, Price USD1460) as well, but I am not a fan, still prefer the sac weekend...

Below: The 2 bags as seen on the LV's SS2011 mens collection runway... the besace is huge!

Louis Vuitton Monogram Impression Sac Weekend

I am not usually a fan of Louis Vuitton. I was apalled by their sneaky acquisition of Hermés stakes, and I am not interested in their overtly brash monogram bags which is seen on practically everyone!

But this Spring Summer 2011 season, I can't seem to get this bag out of my mind: Meet Louis Vuitton Monogram Impression Sac Weekend! Crafted from denim fabric (treated and woven to give a vintage appearance) and leather accents... the colour of moss green and grey is to die for!

I seriously will not mind carrying these around on weekend trips...smart, masculine, luxurious, I can give myself all the reasons in the world to get this bag. Except of course, the exorbitant pricing puts me at bay... USD 2520?!?!?! I need Sugar Daddies!

But I love the bag.

Below: Watch these video clips featuring artist and tattooist Scott Campbell with all those LV SS2011 gorgeous pieces... I am envious!

Below: This 2nd clip has the sac weekend hanging on the rack in the design studio while Scott sketches! Love the bag...

My MANy Bags Trendspotting #149

Below: Anyone for furry 'bag friends'? Céline's Pre-Fall 2011 collection sees abundance of these furry bag charms hooked onto those delectable bags and clutches... I am already wishlisting it, have you?

Below: A touch of winter luxe on any bags, even small clutches! Me like!

Below: Céline's neutral shades in Black or whites are perfect to accent the colours in her pre-fall 2011 collection. Fur goes so well with tweeds, plaids and wools...

Below: I am definitely getting one to hook on to the clutches come next Fall Winter 2011...

A Tale Of The Furry Tails...

Over the past few seasons I have noticed the rise of the 'furry tail' bag charms in fashion. Often than not, they become highly coveted 'pets'... a cuddly companion to accompany your beloved arm candies. These 'touch-inducing' bag accessory can be traced all the way back to Fall Winter 2007 (all thanks to Gucci's Frida Giannini) as a smaller version endearingly hooked onto the bags at Gucci's Fall Winter 2007 mens collection. What a touch of winter luxe that sends me all the way to Paris to hunt one down for myself.

Below: I first notice our 'furry friends' debuting in Gucci's Fall Winter 2007 mens collection... smaller in size and in shades of brown to mimick the 'tails' of the racoon...

Fast forward to Spring Summer 2010, the full glory of these furry tails exploded into fashion stardom (not to mention collector's frenzy) with Louis Vuitton's multi-coloured and 'bank account' draining versions, bigger and better! I hear many were disappointed as these LV furry tails were some of the hardest to track down then. Demand was overwhelming despite their astronomical price tags.

Below: Louis Vuitton took these little 'furry cuties' to fashion stardom in Spring Summer 2010, multiplying them in size, splashing them in hot pinks and greens! Everyone wants them!

If anyone misses out on these charming furries, Fret not...

There is light at the end of the 'fashion tunnel'... Our furry tail friends are back with another 'season of vengeance'. Thanks to Phoebe Philo who proposes these furry bag charms as a key accessory for her Céline Pre-fall 2011 collection. A must-have in the collection that is seen on every look, fashionably attached to Céline's delectable clutches and bags. Call it a new level of minimalist luxe. I adore her black and white pared down interpretations.

I am signing up for one right this moment... anyone else joining me?:-P Winter 2011 please come fast!!!

Below: Lisanne de Jong is also a fan of the Céline Luggage Tote! A smart all black ensemble with a spot of leopard (Alexander Wang shoes) !

Below: Jac Jagaciak also toting the now highly sought after Céline Luggage Tote!
Look at the amount she is packing, this is one tough bag for sure:-)

Below: The Envelope Luggage Tote with a front envelope design is even more gorgeous, especially in an outstanding rouge colour:-)

Below: Alana Zimmer with one of the most iconic bags of all time, Balenciaga's Work bag!

Below: A Chanel Classic Flap bag can do no girl wrong... Jac again looking stunning with her Chanel!

Below: Anyone for Fendi's Classico Bag? Love the shoulder bag/clutch look with a handy top handle. Anna Della Russo carries one as well!

My MANy Bags Trendspotting #121

Below: Something luxuriously furry for the ladies and perhaps some men
(that Versace bag is from the mens range:_P)...

Hairy
Companions: Fall Winter 2010 Bags And Accessories

PETA will be fuming mad. Ladies will gleefully brag. And perhaps some men too will join the pack. You either love or hate it.

However, fur is here to stay much to the dismay of animal enthusiasts. Designers are going in full force with their pursuit of ultimate luxury. For this Fall Winter 2010 season, furry materials are presented in its full glory by many designers on bags, shoes and more.

One thing I know, whether is it real or faux fur, the look is definitely winter and supremely decadent. So take your pick. it's time for some furry 'companions'...
