Burda Maternity Dress!

Burda Style 132-6/2010
Very quickly, I am not pregnant.  Phew!  This is for my little sister who is living in Manhattan and pregnant for the first time.  The baby is due in August and her clothes are just starting to feel a little tight.  I offered to sew this for her with a happy heart and lots of good intentions.  I think we all know where this went!
Ooops! I tried to manage without any Vilene bias tape.

I couldn't find any Vilene bias tape.  Pregnancy doesn't last forever (it just feels that way the last month!), so I decided it would be best to press forward and get this thing mailed across the pond.  Kind of a mistake.  The neckline wasn't finished as nicely as I would like it to be.  Trying to fix it, just pulled the fabric more out of shape, so I had to cut my losses.

I was desperate to do my best job of this because my sister and I don't often give each other presents.  In the end this is the best I could manage.  I hope she won't be disappointed.  When I sew, the small details that don't turn out well really bug me, but I'll wear the clothes anyway realising that most people just take in colour and shape, and that a lot of rtw has poor detailing anyway.  I hope she feels the same.  I have no idea if this will fit her well or not.

Burda's picture from the archive, complete with baby-tummy.

I couldn't find a pillow that filled this out nicely, so you'll just have to use your imagination.  As Burda instructions go, I found this one easy-peasy.  I was never confused, I never had to guess, I never had to redo anything.  Maybe I was lucky, maybe I am finally gaining experience and things are getting easier.   I'm glad that it was an easy dress to sew because my sister, who is a novice, would like to try sewing another one herself, if she likes it.  I am sure she could manage it.
