Model of Singaporean blood goes topless for GQ Italy

Sports Illustrated 2008

Borned in Perth, Jessica Gomes is of Singaporean-Chinese and Portuguese heritage. She first made her major appearance in the Fashion industry after appearing in Sports Illustrated 2008.

Sports Illustrated 2008

If you find her familiar, that's because she was also the face in Diddy's Unforgiven Women fragance commercial, alongside other clothing brands that she had modelled before like Levi's, DKNY, and Victoria's Secret and electronics giant Motorola.

This time she appears topless in GQ Italy, a men-centric magazine.

It looked like she grew slightly thinner, but her unique pan-asian features will probably help her get to the top in the modelling industry.

At 5'9" tall, the 24-year-old is now residing in New York, pursuing every model's dream. With sheer determination, one day we shall see her on the covers of Vogue.

Feeling Tickled Pink

I'm feeling like wearing a lot of soft pink colours! After looking at this site.

Some fancy things I would like to wear right now.

Oh, I just want to wear chiffon and go around in bare feet (even if I did just purchase huge crazy boots). Yes, I want spring. I'm all ready for it.

Ashlee Simpson Defends Sister's Weight

Jessica Simpson’s figure has caused quite the buzz lately. On Sunday she performed at Radio 99.9 Kiss Country's annual Chili Cookoff in Florida showing off what FoxNews describes as “noticeably fuller curves.”

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz came to her sister’s defense yesterday and posted the following on her MySpace:

”I am completely disgusted by the headlines concerning my sister's weight. A week after the inauguration and with such a feeling of hope in the air for our country, I find it completely embarrassing and belittling to all women to read about a woman's weight or figure as a headline on Fox News…
All women come in different shapes, sizes, and forms and just because you're a celebrity, there shouldn't be a different standard…How can we expect teenage girls to love and respect themselves in an environment where we criticize a size 2 figure?”

Way to go Ashlee! We here at Roaman’s couldn’t agree more! Jessica looks happy & healthy and that is what's important.

What do you think of Jessica’s new figure and Ashlee’s statement?

Screen Actors Guild Award 2009: Fashion Edition - Emancipation of new blood

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award 2009 had given out the bronze silhouette to some of the most highly-acclaimed actors in the Movie and TV industry.

Unlike the Grammy's, these celebrities dare to give other less red-carpet-exposed designers a go.

We love how Teri Hatcher donned herself in this pale origami gown by Monique Lhuillier. Also in a Lhuillier was Evan Rachel Wood who wore a teal, one-sided strap gown.

Mrs Tony Parker, looked stunning in this hot salmon chiffon number by Jenny Packham with gemstones sewn along the neckline.

Anne Hathaway may not have taken home the Best Actress award, but we love how her Grecian Goddess look came off the Red carpet. This white Azzaro gown with crystal embellishments complements the actress frame, hair and make-up impeccably.

Even Katrina Bowden was spotted in a Project Runway winner, Christian Siriano, sea-blue custom-made dress. Not exactly a fan of this design, but still it was a worthy try.

Some other stunning celebrities:

Freida Pinto donned a pale bluish purple Marchesa gown with a Roger Viver clutch and Martin Katz jewels, Emily Blunt in a silver sequin Pamela Roland gown, Evan Rachel Wood adorned a one shouldered Lhuillier teal gown with a bird brooch

Of course with all great events, there will always be some who will come dress in their "best", or so they think they were.

Sorry, Mrs Pitt, but we really think she look shapeless, boring and uninteresting in this midnight blue Max Azria gown. We can understand how much of a chore it is to dress up for an award show.

There's so much of a blue going on, this electric fish-tail dress looked so yesterday. The horizontal seamline that runs across the mid-thigh is just so unflattering and tacky, that we forget to look at Kate Winslet's beautiful décolleté.

Chin up, walk tall

They're here!

They are mighty tall, and I walked around them for a while thinking that I should probably return them because they're so tall.

Except they're so awesome so I'm not going to return them.

Fashion in the Ox - be fashionably RED this Chinese New Year.

According to the Lunar Calendar, tomorrow marks the start of the year of the Ox also known as Ji Chou.
This Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) is one of the most important traditional Chinese holidays.

In Singapore, we observe 2 public holidays for the 15-day long hoopla.

The Chinese believe that the colour red brings good luck and could ward off evil spirits. During Chinese New Year, you'll see parents giving out red packets to their children, families would hang red twin couplets outside their homes, and Chinese clad in vibrant red shirts and dresses. Of course over the years, these traditions have been watered-down, and these days, you'll see gold-coloured "red" packets, and people wearing the once taboo darker hues like brown and black.

The true dandies are always spotted in tinges of red (even if they hated it) just to please grandma. And if you are struggling to find the best outfit for the occasion, without looking like an oversized red packet, try taking your cue from Louis Vuitton's men's RTW 2009 collection.

Although I couldn't quite grasps Paul Helbers's concept of "the traveling wardrobe of an African king", the somewhat solemn pallette with occasional discrete splashes of orange-red sweaters and beanies did the trick.

LV Men's RTW 2009 collection

Go Crazy

Ohhhh I did something totally insane and spent money on a pair of boots that look like this:

Yes. They will be here tomorrow. Wonderful Guess "Maeve" boots. Kind of gothic but I can't wait to wear it with my chiffon dress with tights and leg warmers, a black blazer, and some crazy coloured scarf.

So now for some outfits that I would gladly wear. Because we all have Lacroix, Moschino and Schouler lying around in our closets.

SO EXCITED. SO IN LOVE.

But not nearly as excited or as in love with the fact that Barack Obama is now our President!!

Michelle Obama - Inaugural dress

(This is probably the only time we get ourselves involved with politics...)

It wasn't Calvin Klein, neither was it Diane von Furstenberg.

The creative brain behind Michelle Obama's inaugural dress was Cuban-borned American Designer, Isabel Toledo, who is known as a master in geometric and pattern shapes.

The pale gold sheath dress (with matching long coat) was just perfect for the significant occasion. Without a doubt, the "shiny armour" complements her complexion impeccably and we love how the silhouette appears fashionable yet very graceful for a first-lady. Deliberate clash of emerald green pumps was a great effort by Mrs Obama to deviate from the often cliché styles of first-ladies.

This isn't the first time that Mrs Obama wore a number by the talented Parson Graduate.

In fact, Obama appeared at a New York City fashion world fund-raiser in a black outfit by Toledo last June.

And in case you're wondering, none of them made it.

Pretty Passport Holder

When I was walking pass the travel accessories section at Saks last month, I scoffed at the idea. Why would I need a pretty passport holder when I only use it once every few months, and when I do, only very briefly when I go through customs. Most of the time, it is kept inside my bag anyway.

A day or so later, I learnt the error of my ways. 12 hours before my international flight, I realized that my passport was not where it should be. I was completely frazzled and lost. I immediately started ransacking my apartment looking for it and even called HG internationally for moral support in my panicked state (it was the middle of the night for her too!). I kept looking while she went online and checked out what one does in a situation like this (it was a saturday night so govt departments are not even opened the next day). Half an hour later, I finally found it neatly tucked away in a inconspicuous looking white envelope. I'd used my passport 6 months ago for something else and had forgotten to put it back in the pencil case looking travel bag where I put all my travel stuff in. Phew! Crisis avoided.
The next day on my ride to the airport, I retold my story to my friend and she said that this was why I should get a pretty passport holder, then I'd never have to put my passport in a white envelope. Plus, I should get an eye catching one, so I'll see it immediately. She had a point. Now i'm a convert to pretty passport holder. The question of course, is which one. I'm considering this bright red one from Saks. It is simple, elegant and vibrant. Plus, the size is just right, with little compartments for travel award cards etc (actually it might even be a great present for mom!).

How does everyone else keep their passport?

Pussycat Dolls for Bebe

The collaboration between Bebe and The Pussycat Dolls with Robin Antin revealed a new sexy lingerine line inspired by pop-rock and old-fashioned pin-up girls, titled:

"Shhh...."

Be treated to a good dosage of animal-prints, lace, corsets, and graphic-prints. Not quite impressive after a quick browse on their online store, but if you are an avid fan of the kittens, you might just dig them.

The garments range in price from US$20 for the Doll Revolution Bikini Panty to US$98 for the Lipstick Vintage Pintuck Corset. All available at Bebe online.

Sephora in Singapore

All that recession-related news with the latest from the British treasury pumping in £200 billion to save banks from bad debts; ECB cut 50 bps last Thursday causing even higher volatility in the forex market; and KPMG offering 11,000 UK staff sabbaticals and hours cut; could pretty much put any company's expansion plans on hold.

Well, almost.

Not for multi-brand cosmetic chain, Sephora.
It was pure coincidence that I came to notice the Italian-borned business and realised they had opened its flagship store here in Singapore. Being the cosmetic unit of LVMH, it is no wonder, why they went ahead with their expansion plans into Asia despite the economic slump.

We had the busiest 4th quarter last year, to a point, we had to do almost all our Christmas shopping online to save us time and from much hassle. And one of the online stores we visited was Sephora.

Quite honestly, I had to resort to Sephora because I ran out of ideas, and it was the best one-stop place to shop for the girls and stylists without queuing and jostling with the rest of the nations (and some tourists too).

Limited Edition Dior Holiday Collection Makeup Palette & YSL Duo Lip Color Palette

To me, Sephora is perfect for their micro-minis - an idea I truly adore, since I'm always stuck with more than 5 different bottles of 500ml scent for the rest of the year!

The online Sephora is packed with lots of amazing skincare and frangrance brands like NARS, Murad, L'Occitane, and even Ed Hardy.

Bare Essential Starter Kit

Some are limited editions and can only be bought from their online store. The Limited Edition Dior Holiday Collection Makeup Palette which contains six shades inspired by Dior's latest must-have handbag and accessory collections is just one of the many few selections.

One of my favourites is their travel-size Laura Mercier Soufflé. Not only does it contain the finest extracts and earth minerals (that provides natural sheen and radiance to your skin), the compact size allows you to carry, mix, and match the fragrances at a fraction of the original cost.

And if you are more of a "gadget girl", try their 2008 best seller, Clarisonic® - A device that helps clear your pores, loosening dirt, makeup, and oil with a revolving brush tip. It is believed to remove more dirt than your traditional cleanser, leaving skin soft and pampered without harsh abrasion or chemicals

Stila, Clarisonic, Laura Mercier

It isn't too difficult to guess why I spent nearly 5 hours shopping "there" last Christmas.

Too spoilt for choice and can't decide what to get for your girlfriend?

You can always opt for some gift certificates from the online store or simply buy their version of Monopoly and GO TO JAIL for bad hair days.

I have not been to the Sephora store in Singapore, I heard not too good reviews about the offerings they have here.

Well, let's just wait and see.
