Wallpaper Collective. Yea, it's still in... (Via Made By Girl)

Wallpaper is still so "in" these days. The fact is, it's being designed with so many different types of patterns that it's HARD to find ones you DON'T like! I remember when wallpaper was starting it's come back & BLOGGERS started writing about it. I admit, at the time I was a bit hesitant. But companies like Graham & Brown restored MY FAITH in this 70's fad & it's been a healthy obsession since then!

One company you must know about is Wallpaper Collective. This company has a ton of funky wallpaper many with bold graphics and gorgeous colors, you won't be disappointed.  These are a handful of the ones I really liked from their site, you can see more here.

Also (below) a NEW collection below by UK designer Louise Body. Louise Body is known in the UK for her FUN graphic & EARTH FRIENDLY design work..

Burda Cross Over Top, September 2010 Issue

Burda, September 2010, pattern 111
I am a sucker for crossover tops.  They always attract me.  They shouldn't; I have a small bust and crossover tops minimise the bust.  But, I always forget that fact every couple of years and buy one.  This top is no exception.

Let me say that this is a good pattern and went together easily.  The darts shaping the back make help define the waist and there is plenty of fabric in the front, so no one is going to "fall out" of this one.  If anyone has their eye on style 111 in the Burda September mag, I say go for it!  For another example of this top made up, have a look at mezzocouture's.
Burda, September 2010, style 111

Just a few quick caveats though, The string ties are a bit fiddly to make and a pain to wear.  If you ever wash a dish, cook a meal, or feed yourself these strings are likely to fall into the dishwater, end up in the gas ring, or swim through the soup!  If I was making this top again, I would omit the string ties and gather the sleeves with some slim elastic sewed onto the seam allowance.

Also, I sewed a 40 which is my upper body size in Burda, and it seemed a little roomy.  It was especially wide in the shoulders.

Finally, and this is just a matter of personal taste, I think the busy print I used obscures the all the folds and gathers which are points of interest in this design.  The fabric I used was a mystery knit.  Very thin and slinky, but well behaved with no roll at the edges.  It think the top would have turned out just as well with something beefier, but thin was fine.

The view from the back gives almost an Edwardian shape to my upper figure with broad, rounded shoulders and wasp waist (not counting muffin top of course!)

Ad Campaigns And Catalogues #160

Below: Key fall winter looks for less? You decide... but I love Maje's interpretation of Fall's major key trends... closely resembling Balmain's skinny gold jeans, navy peacoat, leopard overcoat and translucent bow-tie blouse...

Below: Or Burberry Prorsum's aviatrix looks with those gorgeous military inspired shearling coats?

Below: How about Céline's prefall furry tops and skirts or minimalist styles?

Below: Some Chloé or Fendi?

Below: Proenza Schouler's school girl looks?

Maje Fall Winter 2010 Womenswear

To all my female readers: Have you been coveting some of the most prominent looks seen on the Fall Winter 2010 collection runways? But 'troubled' by the exorbitant amounts required to acquire those key pieces...

Well, recently while browsing thru Net-a-porter, I found this cool Parisian label, Maje who does amazing pieces closely resembling some of the key runway looks by big name designers. Think Balmain's translucent bow-tie blouse, skinny gold jeans, navy pea coats and leopard overcoats... or Burberry Prorsum's aviatrix shearling jackets, military blazers and boots or Céline's furry skirts, tops and cool minimalist leather top... you name it, you got it.

Not to say Maje is not original. But designer, Judith Milgrom, sure knows what women wants for the season. She does inject her fair share of design sense, incorporating key trends into her collections.

Pricing wise, the brand is more expensive than your Zara and Topshop, but the styles is clearly more refined and Maje brand less mass produced. So will you buy into Maje or simply go for the cheaper Zara/ Topshop or splurge all the way for the true originals?

Clearly, power to the 'consumers to decide' is always welcoming!

I got a pair of skinny Maje camouflage jeans from Net-a-porter recently... and I love it. I have been searching for a men's version but the sizing is always too large and style too scruffy.

Lee Elder, Jack Nicklaus and the American Golf Classic

AS THE RAIN FELL this morning at the Ensure Classic at Rock Barn, I talked with 76-year-old Lee Elder, a four-time PGA Tour winner and the first African American to play in the Masters. I told Lee one of my earliest memories of watching golf on television was when he squared off against Jack Nicklaus in a sudden-death playoff at the American Golf Classic.

(If you are of a certain age, you may remember it. It was played at Firestone Country Club, the site of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. Before the American Golf Classic, the Firestone event was called the Rubber City Open.)

I was a kid, it was 1968, and we had a portable black-and-white Zenith set with rabbit ears. Today, Lee reminded me about some of the details of that long-ago duel. He said what most people don’t remember was that the playoff included Frank Beard until Lee and Jack birdied 16 and Beard dropped out.

Who is Lee Elder? That’s what I wondered at the time. Everyone knew who Jack was. Jack was the man. It was Lee’s rookie season on the PGA Tour and he didn’t blink during his five-hole showdown with Nicklaus. Jack won. But Lee’s play made enough of an impression on me that I still remember it more than 40 years later.

Elder would wait six more years for his first PGA Tour win, the 1974 Monsanto Open in Pensacola, Florida. It put him into the Masters, finally breaking the color barrier at Augusta National. Lee was also the first black to play in the Ryder Cup when he qualified for the 1979 team.

And Beard, the forgotten man in that 1968 playoff, won the American Golf Classic two years later.

Designer Todd Yoggy ....(Via Made By Girl)

Todd Yoggy has a great sense of decor. He really knows how to put things together in an elegant yet comfortable way. He has a way of bringing history into a room and making it fit into today's lifestyle.
The photos I chose were of MASCULINE style interiors, basically interiors decorated ideally for a man's taste. Even though I don't normally go for dark walls, these really sparked my interest. Have you noticed all the dark lamp shades floating around online?!?

Glad I made my own lamps for my bedroom, which you can see in this post.

why a happy kit?

Living Beautifully is synonymous to living happily since true happiness can greatly reveal the inner beauty in you. Being bloggers, we realize the vitality of living beautifully. We surround ourselves with all the pretty stuff- it could be a fashion show, an event, or just meeting with interesting people and sometimes we neglect the real essence of that. Albeit our wishes to maintain a very wholesome and healthy lifestyle , things can become awfully rough and unpredictable. Think: cigarette, alcohol and STRESS!

Anton is a stylist and an accessory designer. He also coordinates events occasionally. Obviously, he has a lot on his plate. A true chameleon, in terms of job and personality, Anton is a master in transformation. So i provided him with comsetics and products he can use to sustain his very unpredictable mood. In addition, I chose products that could help him relax.
This was a golden opportunity for us to celebrate beauty and a better way to do that is through SHOPPING. Just when you thought that there's nothing FREE in this world anymore, Watson's saved our kikay budget. haha.
