Red for a good cause

We've been (red)efined and inspi(red) ever since Bono and Bobby Shriver created (RED) to engage the private sector in the fight against AIDS in Africa.

Celebrities like Scarlett johansson and global influential brands including Apple and Dell have all supported this movement.

Fashion labels like GAP and Emporio Armani have created a range of (product) RED, where portion of profits from each (PRODUCT) RED product sold goes directly to the Global Fund to invest in African AIDS programs, with a focus on women and children.

Collaborating with Ghanaian contemporary artist, Owusu-Ankomah, the Emporio Armani collection represents a tangible and personal connection to Africa.

From fashion to IT, there is no distinction when it comes to giving back to the less fortunate to help families affected by Aids in Africa.

RED is not only use in AIDS awareness, but also in Heart Disease.

Early this month, we saw some leading female celebrities strutting their crimson red gowns down the HEART TRUTH dress collection during New York Fashion Week.

Roaman's Rocks Fashion Week

It’s Fashion Week! And Roaman’s attends the Fabulous Red Dress Collection 2009

On Friday, February 13th, The Heart Truth Fashion Show sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute that took place at Bryant Park in NYC, proved to be one of the best yet! And though the air outside was chilly, the mood inside was RED hot!!

The energy & excitement that was bubbling could be felt throughout the entire room as women lavishly sparkled in their RED inspired outfits. Their fashion picks ranged from modestly large hats, to high-heeled boots and chic red dresses to sharp accessories. But none stunned more than the gorgeous and talented ladies that walked the RED runway!

Us on the Fab runway!

These amazing and talented women represented a powerful message of diversity in every sense of the word. And the message was loud and clear, it doesn’t matter how old or young, celebrity or average-joe, beautiful or rich…heart disease affects anyone at anytime. The earlier you take care of your heart by being healthy and active, the longer, happier life you’ll lead! The Red Dress Collection is based on the Red Dress icon that is the centerpiece of The Heart Truth. It is a simple, beautiful symbol that sends the message that “Heart Disease Doesn’t Care What You Wear- It’s the #1 Killer of Women”

So the best thing for women to strive toward is to take care of their heart and be
Heart HAPPY!

Plus Size British singer to launch LOVE magazine!

The rumors have been flying around for weeks, but as we get closer to the launch date of Katie Grand's new magazine LOVE on February 19th, the rumors are being taken as true. Now, we are still talking about "rumors" here, BUT it seems that plus size singer Beth Ditto from The Gossip and all around outlandish British rock icon will be christening LOVE as the first face to grace the cover!! This is a huge statement on the part of Katie Grand by choosing to have Ditto pose for the cover of the high-end style magazine rather than a runway regular. We give her uber props and hope that this is just a taste of the types of things we can expect from this much anticipated Conde Nast publication.

Fashion Doll Barbie's 50th Birthday

1959

now?

Guess what?

It's Barbie's 50th birthday!

As a doll, Barbie has been through much accusations, law-suits, and controversies, even more than a real human-being; From sending the wrong signals to young girls on the nearly unnatural hourglass figure, to taking legal actions against Danish band, Aqua, for mocking at Barbie, to breaking up with her long-time boyfriend, Ken in 2000 - Barbie has indeed live it all.

This year, Barbie will be participating in her first-ever runway show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York on February 14, 2009. For the very first time, we will witness 50 world-renowned fashion designers come together and showcase real-size, Barbie®-inspired looks at Bryant Park. In this monumental fashion celebration designers will celebrate the past, present and future of fashion, as inspired by Barbie® doll, first launched in 1959 as the "Teenage Fashion Model™."

The Runway show will be webcast live via Barbie.com.

Barbie will be receiving a birthday gift (we heard it's pink Pumps) from Christian Louboutin.

Some of Barbie's designer wardrobe from the past include Bill Blass, Oscar De La Renta, Dior, Carolina Hererra, Vera Wang, Zac Posen, just to name a few.

In Singapore, we too had our very own "Doll Me Up" exhibition in 2005, that showcased a pool of local designers' (Federick Lee, Daniel Yam, Frances Cheong) interpretation of the doll, as well as students' entries on the contest.

The exhibition was first seen in the Singapore Art Museum and later in Changi Airport.
