Maison Martin Margiela Spring Summer 2011 Mens Accessories

Mr Margiela may be absent from the creative reins of his namesake brand, his spirits still lives on in Maison Martin Margiela's collections. For Spring Summer 2011, I am duly surprised by the amount of desirable pieces I covet from the mens collections, definitely heaps of improvement from the past 2 seasons.

The use of mundane objects as inspirations have always been embedded in the brand's DNA. Often imbued with a twist, the designs always surprises with ingenuity and understated aesthetics. For this season, I love those gold leaf coated boots which appeared raw but sends out an individualistic glamour unseen anywhere else. Leather bags made from tan leather that is ridden with scratches tells a different story about charisma and appeal for the owner. Love that holdall!

As for mens jewellery, work tools have been reworked to become understated and yet interesting mens rings, bracelets and necklaces. Unexpected mix of materials adds to the appeal. I want those leather and brass nugget bracelets with hammered effects, or even the unusual belts with atypical shaped buckles. All done with a vintage finesse!

Bravo on this new Spring Summer 2011 collection! This is inspiring-fashion:-P

We are slowly (it seems) approaching the weekend. I can't wait to see what the weather is going to be like. It's been in the 80's out of nowhere & you know what that means? SUNBATHING by the pool for me while listening to some Sam Cooke on my iPhone. Ugh can't wait... !!!

And YOU? Are you looking forward to the warmer WEATHER???

After a month, the shoes i ordered from F Stop have finally arrived. Thanks Melai Entuna for making it easy for me to get it. You all are witnesses on how I've abused my pixie wedges from Soule Phenomenon for one whole year already hence a new pair in grey. These grey wedges are super light!

Trousers, Burda 03/2010-109A

Burdastyle, 03/2010-109A

I got the gumption up to try making another pair of trousers.  I went for view A which is the capri length.  I chose some black cotton twill with a touch of stretch from Gorgeous Fabrics.  Things went reasonably well.  I used Erica Bunker's suggested link to the the threads video of Sandra Betzina demonstrating how to insert a fly front.  It was a massive help.  Then I turned to the Readers Digest Complete Guide to Sewing in order to attach the waist band.  I can only follow Burda instructions when I already have a good idea of how to sew an item in the first place!

It looks a lot better inside than my last attempt.  I still have one raw edge exposed on the  right hand side of the zipper,  though.

I was so focussed on learning the construction of pants/trousers that I didn't pay as much attention to the fit as I should have.  I have a very average sized torso.  I fit a size 12 pretty much straight off the pattern. My lower half is a whole different situation.  This is where I wish that was "Full Bottom Adjustment" technique!  I cut a size 46 and went down to a size 44 at the waist.  Then I took the waist in a little more in the back seam.  I wish I had taken it in even more.  As you can see, the pants either gape in the back or slide down to the hollow of my back and then dip in the front exposing my belly.  Also, my hips are wide where they become the top of my thighs, but they aren't wide at my high hip.  I think I flared out to a size 46 a little too quickly from the waist.  Thinking about what to do in the future.  I wonder about sewing a size smaller in the front and a size large in the back...  Has anyone tried this?

My 7 year old daughter who took these pictures, said "Mommy your pants look nice, but they would be even better if you made the thighs smaller! LOL

Forgetting about my particular figure woes, these pants/trousers were crucial for making sense of everything else I've been sewing that didn't match anything.  I now have a jacket, trousers and at least three shirts that all go together hurray!  Also, now that I have the pants done, I can move onto other sewing.  Like whipping up a top for Faye's Over the Top challenge.  Still, I am glad I was disciplined and didn't flit off to other projects before closing out this "mini-wardrobe."

With the striped T-shirt and Knit Jacket I just made.

With the flow-y shirt I made a few months ago.  I'll admit that this ensemble does nothing for my pear shape- it makes me look even bigger than I am!  But, it is so cool and comfortable you can be sure I'll wear it.

Now, I am looking forward to Sherry's RTW Tailoring Sew-Along.  If the jacket turns out well, maybe I'll make some khaki pants to go with it and a few shirts for another mini-wardrobe.  I'm happy with the way I now have things in my closet that all go together.

My MANy Bags News #315

Below: Attended the Inaugural Singapore Mens Fashion Week last night... and got to have front row seats at the opening show by Boss Black Fall Winter 2011... Bravo!

myMANyBags @ Singapore's Inaugural Mens Fashion Week 2011

Yesterday kickstarts fashion season in Singapore. And what a great way to immerse in all the fashion excitement than to attend the opening show for Singapore's Inaugural Mens Fashion Week 2011. 3rd in the world to host a dedicated male fashion week, the event is a welcome addition for Singapore and even the region's fashion calendar. Boss Black enjoys the honour of being the opening gig for the event... sending many well heeled and dressed ladies and gentlemen attending the show into glamour overdrive.

I had the pleasure of being at the show with my fellow blogger friends. And thanks to gracious and always-fun-to-hang-out-with Bagaholicboy... I got front row seats! Nothing beats the unobstructed view of front row:-) Thanks Alvin!

Below: Philip Huang opened the show last night for Boss Black Fall Winter 2011...

In addition, being invited as media, we all had a great time basking in 'VIP' reserved media-only areas and enjoyed the festivities with delicious canapés and drinks:-) Each of us also got a complimentary pair of Feiyue trainers... quirky combination of white and black on seperate feet.

Here's some pics from the evening. Enjoy Philip Huang in Boss Black Fall Winter 2011 glory... and many many other cute models and cool clothes to drool.

Yesterday , before the FaDal fashion show at Republiq , Mike and I had an opportunity to visit a very interesting person- Mariko Jacinto. Months ago, Brian Tenorio invited us to a networking/ event at Bed in Malate and he introduced us to  Mariko. True to form we made connections with people esp. to her. She messaged us on facebook  a day after asking us to design something for her for the FaDAL show because she told us that she must wear something like "us" .. Its purely overwhelming... To have an artist , a fashion designer , socialite as your client. She's also friends w/ BB. Hehe

And so we fitted the pieces yesterday 3 hours prior the show. We had so much fun inside her house. it was a museum inside with her paintings everywhere, expensive knick knacks on her sala, and chandeliers even inside her powder room. She showed to us her immense collection of clothes - Issey Miyake , Puey Quinones , Anne Demeulemeester and more. So it was a pressure for me and Mike to make something for her as she is aware of what style and fashion is. We made a shredded top, a deconstructed vest and a chiffon harem pants for her....

She's super cool! Thank God she loved the clothes. I mean , c'mon ! usually you would think that someone like her would  wear a purple jersey dress for an event but she opted to play genderless and grungy and grey.. She'll be leaving in April for Italy to study art  i guess?  and we do hope to meet her soon.
