Size Up America!

So let's go over this again: 50% of women in the US are above a size 14. When is the rest of the world going to size up?

All Woman, a section in the Jamaica Observer, discussed the same topic last week in their article Plus-sized? Don't shop here. In Jamaica, just as many small towns, there is a very slim selection of plus size clothing and the acceptable or actually wearable portion is even smaller. Roaman's offers a solution to this problem through their catalogue and website. But not many retailers are following suit. Even with the statistics people are still not catching on! Plus size clothing, let me rephrase, wearable, workable, fashionable plus size clothing (because we shouldn't have to compromise style for size!!) is a hunt on the Internet. Even places that claim to be plus size may only go up to a 24 or 3x. There are more fabulous curves than that!

Tc2, a research company, scanned the bodies of 10,000 Americans to come up with an idea of the "average" size for men and women in America. The study, Size USA , after breaking down it's findings by race and age they found that the average size of a woman in the US is 14. JC Penny, Jockey, Lane Bryant, Victoria’s Secret, and Lands’ End have all used this survey and the body scanner that Tc2 used in the survey to conduct their own research and still non of them have started making use of it to create bigger sizes! Come on a 44DD?? Roaman's carries up to a 54G! Land's End 3x, 26W are the biggest sizes they carry and in some of their pants size 18 is the largest Plus size they have. Come on, if you have some hippage where is it going to go, your socks? Even Lane Bryant, a Plus Size brand, only carries up to a size 32 and that's only in some items. Roaman's: 6x, 44W. They take a full figured woman seriously. Real women, real curves, voluptuous bodies. Size up America, we're waiting!
