Finally a New Top! McCalls M5754

McCalls View C M5754
I am a s l o w sewer.  So, I have shifted gears to warm weather sewing already.   I ran up McCalls M5754 this week.  It went pretty well.  I used a cotton silk broadcloth that my mother brought me at Xmas time from FabricMart.  It is thin floaty stuff, and I should have fused some interfacing to the yoke pieces, although the pattern didn't specify to do so.  Live and learn.  Otherwise, it came out well.  It required a lot of fabric, and I had to skimp on the arm pieces and forgo lining there.  It doesn't seem to matter.  No zips, buttons, or notions beyond thread were necessary, which is always nice.

This top might not last more than one season, it's so thin and delicate, but that's OK.  The pattern is already OOP.  Which is probably a hint to me that floaty, voluminous tunics are on their way out of fashion.  Never mind, I am looking forward to wearing this with black capri pants this summer.  (I just need to make the capri pants!)

You might have noticed that I now have a dress makers dummy.  Lucky me!  It was a very generous birthday/Xmas gift from my in-laws.  I am looking forward to using it when sewing more fitted garments.  Sadly I have to crank it way out for the hips, a little bit out for the waist, and hardly a smidgen out for the bust!
