MTA: Irène Complete Stop To New York City Transit System

MTA:St. New York City officials say they are ready for an unprecedented shutdown of the largest national installation of subways, buses and commuter rails in Hurricane Irene.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said Saturday it had checked all his equipment and employees sent home. Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the edge of the storm reached the city.

The transit system stopped working on Saturday night. For the first time officials who ordered the giant network closed due to bad weather.

It is not known when the system is working again. MTA said, even if the damage is minimal, to restore the service "will be a long process." And floods, landslides, fallen trees and downed power lines could greatly complicate the work.
